‘Independent’ isn’t same as ‘private’ school
By GEORGE VANKAMPEN, COMMUNITY COLUMNIST
Entering its 54th year, Hamilton District Christian High continues to form an important part of the educational fabric of Hamilton Mountain.
As an independent Christian alternative, HDCH has matured from humble beginnings in church basements and at our original Athens Street campus to a modern home for about 500 students and 45 staff at the corner of Rymal and Glancaster Roads.
Our students come from across the city, and some are also bused in from Burlington, Brantford and Haldimand. They come from about 90 different Christian congregations. We are now seeing some third-generation students enter the school.

Some first-time guests expect a rigid, disciplinarian school system; they are surprised to find a relaxed family atmosphere of personal safety and warm student-teacher relationships.
